Amnezia Premium FAQ​

What is Amnezia Premium?​

Amnezia Premium is a paid VPN subscription from the AmneziaVPN team.

You can learn more about its features and benefits on the official Amnezia website (mirror).

How much does Amnezia Premium cost?​

See current pricing on the payment page (mirror).

Is there automatic subscription renewal?​

No. Auto-renewal isn’t available, so you need to renew manually.

How to renew Amnezia Premium subscription​

You can renew Amnezia Premium yourself or through support. Either way, you get 20% off.

You can renew any time while your subscription is active, or within 60 days after it expires.

Option 1. Three days before your subscription expires, we’ll email you at the address you used at checkout. Click Renew Subscription, choose subscription duration and payment method, and complete the payment.

We’ll renew your subscription automatically. Your Subscription Key stays the same, and your connected devices keep working without interruption.

Option 2. If you want to renew early, didn’t get the email, or want to merge a new subscription with your current one, contact us on Telegram chat or email [email protected].

Include the email address you used for your purchase.

Option 3. If you purchased Amnezia Premium on or after February 7, 2026, your Subscription Key email includes a link to your order details page.

Open that link, click Renew, choose subscription duration and payment method, and click Renew Subscription.

Option 4. In AmneziaVPN 4.8.15.4 or later, go to Settings → Servers → select the Amnezia Premium connection you need → click Renew subscription → choose subscription duration and payment method, and click Renew Subscription again.

How many devices can I connect to Amnezia Premium?​

Amnezia Premium supports up to 7 active connections.

An active connection slot is used by:

  • any device that has connected at least once using the vpn:// key
  • any configuration file you generate, even if no device uses it

Once you hit the active connections limit (7 of 7), you won’t be able to generate a configuration file for another location or connect a new device using the vpn:// key. Connection attempts will return error 1108 (rarely 1100 or 1103). You can remove devices and configuration files in your Personal Dashboard.

A router won’t appear in the list of active devices, but it still counts as 1 slot because it requires a configuration file. You can connect any number of devices through the router.

At the moment, downloading configuration files is suspended while we restore the service after blocking. Error 1100 may occur when trying to download a configuration file. Previously issued configuration files may also temporarily stop working. We will announce when this option is restored in our Telegram channels and in News & Notifications inside the AmneziaVPN app. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Can I increase the device limit?​

No. If you need to connect more than 7 devices, you’ll need an additional Amnezia Premium subscription.

Can I get a discount on a second subscription?​

Message us on Telegram chat or email [email protected] and we’ll tell you if you’re eligible for a discount.

Which app should I use to connect?​

Use the official AmneziaVPN app. It supports:

  • Windows 10/11 x64
  • iOS 16 and later
  • Android 7 and later (including Android TV)
  • macOS 10.15 and later
  • Linux

Can I use Amnezia Premium on a router?​

Yes. You can set up VPN on routers that support AmneziaWG protocol, such as Keenetic and OpenWrt.

Can I use Amnezia Premium in Russia?​

VPN use in Russia isn’t prohibited for regular users.

Illegal activity is still illegal — with or without a VPN. Use Amnezia Premium in accordance with the laws in your country.

Amnezia does not keep logs. We don’t store or track user activity.

When you connect to Amnezia Premium, your ISP can’t see which sites you visit or what requests you send — your traffic goes through an encrypted tunnel between you and our server.

Why should I trust Amnezia Premium?​

We build Amnezia to earn your full trust:

  • No logs. We don’t collect browsing history, IP addresses, or session data.
  • RAM-only servers. Nothing is written to disk; data is wiped on reboot.
  • Independent audits. In 2022, 2024 and 2025, 7ASecurity reviewed our apps and server components. No critical vulnerabilities were found.
  • Open source. Our client apps are available on GitHub for independent review.

Which protocols does Amnezia Premium use?​

In the latest AmneziaVPN app, Amnezia Premium uses AmneziaWG 1.5 by default.

You can also connect using XRay VLESS Reality. To enable it: AmneziaVPN Settings → Servers → Amnezia Premium → Use VLESS protocol.

What is VLESS and when should I use it?​

VLESS is a lightweight, secure VPN-protocol used in XRay for censorship circumvention and traffic proxying. Use it if you run into speed issues or can’t connect using the default protocol.

What speeds does Amnezia Premium provide?​

Amnezia Premium supports speeds up to 200 Mbps.

VPN speed can’t exceed your base internet connection speed.

Speed depends on your ISP and plan, distance to the selected location, routing, connection type (Wi‑Fi 2.4/5 GHz, LTE/5G, Ethernet), and background downloads.

Can I download torrents?​

Yes — but only when connected to [P2P] Switzerland.

Can I use Amnezia Premium abroad?​

Yes. Amnezia Premium works even in countries where VPNs are restricted, such as Turkey or the UAE.

Can I access Russian websites from abroad?​

Yes. Connect to the Russia or Kazakhstan locations to access websites and apps that require a Russian IP.

Some portals (for example, https://mos.ru and Gosuslugi) may apply additional checks and be unstable. That depends on their internal rules.

Will Amnezia Premium work in China?​

We haven’t tested it specifically for China, so we can’t guarantee stable performance.

If you connect from China, use split tunneling so only traffic to external resources goes through the VPN.

Why are some locations missing from the app?​

Due to blocking, some locations may be temporarily unavailable. We’re actively working to restore them.

Can I buy a 1 or 3-month subscription?​

No. Only 6- and 12-month subscriptions are available.

We’ll announce new plans on our Telegram channel.

Is there a free trial?​

Yes. We offer a free 7-day trial. We only need your email address to send setup instructions.

How can I pay in Russia?​

You can pay with a ruble card from any Russian bank or via "SBP" (Faster Payments System).

You can also pay with cryptocurrency or any bank card.

What data is required for payment?​

Only your email address. We’ll send your setup instructions and Subscription Key there.

Can I get a refund?​

Yes. Refunds are available within 7 days of payment.

Is there a referral program?​

No. However, we have a partner program (mirror) for communities and content creators.

How do I connect after paying?​

Check the inbox for the email address you used at checkout. It includes setup instructions and your Subscription Key.

What is a "Subscription Key"?​

A Subscription Key is a text string that starts with vpn://. It’s not a clickable link.

You use this key to add connection in the AmneziaVPN app and to log in to your Personal Dashboard (mirror).

How do I add a second device?​

Copy the vpn:// Subscription Key to the second device, install the AmneziaVPN app, and add a new connection using the key.

Can I use one config file on multiple devices?​

No. A single configuration file can only be used by one device at a time.

Can I use the same location on multiple devices?​

Yes — as long as you connect using the vpn:// Subscription Key. A configuration file for a specific location can only be used on one device.

What if I didn't receive the email after paying?​

If you don’t receive an email within 15 minutes, contact us on Telegram chat or email [email protected].

Most of the time, the email doesn’t arrive because of a typo in the address entered at checkout.

Why can't I connect?​

Common reasons include:

  • you’re using an outdated AmneziaVPN version
  • you’re using mobile internet that works only via “whitelists”
  • your ISP is blocking the VPN server IP address
  • you have a DPI-bypass app installed (for example, Zapret or ByeDPI)

Does AmneziaVPN block ads?​

No. AmneziaVPN doesn’t include an ad blocker. However, YouTube ads may be absent in some locations if Google identifies the server IP as Russian.

Can I change the app language?​

Yes. Go to Settings (gear icon) → Application → Language.

What if the VPN stops working on my router?​

If VPN stops working on your router, try a different location.

Try these steps, in order:

  1. Test via configuration file. In the AmneziaVPN app, generate a configuration file for a location, import it into the app, and test stability. If it fails, revoke the file, generate one for a different location, and repeat.

  2. Test on your router. Once you find a working location using a configuration file in the app, import that configuration into your router.

Why don't Gemini or YouTube work?​

Try different locations (for example, the Netherlands, Singapore, or Germany) to find one where Google services work reliably. Results can change due to new Google restrictions.

Why does Google see me in Russia?​

Turn off split tunneling and refresh the page. If the issue persists, it doesn’t necessarily mean the site sees your real IP address — it may be misidentifying our server’s location.

Our servers are physically located in the locations you choose. You can verify this on IPinfo.io.

Why does my internet stop when I connect?​

An unstable connection may trigger KillSwitch. You can disable it in AmneziaVPN settings under Connection.

Why is the internet slow?​

ISPs often throttle speeds to foreign IP addresses.

To test objectively, use nPerf with and without VPN, and select an overseas test server in your VPN location’s region (for example, if you’re connected to Germany, test against a Germany-based server).

Why does the connection drop on my smartphone?​

Android restricts background activity to save battery, which can stop VPN connections.

Solution: Disable battery optimization (power saving) for the AmneziaVPN app in your phone settings.

Another possible cause is temporary mobile-internet restrictions based on “whitelists.”

How do I download the app if it's not in the App Store?​

You can change your App Store region or create a new Apple ID in a supported region.

How do I install on Android without Google Play?​

  1. Go to our GitHub releases page.
  2. Find the version marked Latest (green badge).
  3. Download the .apk file and open it to install.

Which file to choose:

  • Default: ..._android8+_arm64-v8a.apk (fits most modern devices)

  • If you see “Syntax error / Parse error”: download the android_7 build

  • If you see “App not installed”: download the armeabi-v7a build

During installation, allow installs from unknown sources only for the app (browser or file manager) you used to download the file.

Will the app update automatically (APK)?​

No. If you install via APK, you’ll need to download and install updates manually.

Error: "Failed to install AmneziaVPN app" via Google Play​

This happens when you try to update an APK-installed version through Google Play.

Solution: Uninstall the app, then install it from Google Play (or download the latest APK from GitHub).

Amnezia Free FAQ​

How much is Amnezia Free?​

It’s completely free.

Why is it free?​

We believe free access to information is a fundamental human right.

Technically, Amnezia Free uses split tunneling: only traffic to blocked resources (social media, news) goes through our servers, not your entire internet traffic. This reduces infrastructure load and allows us to offer the service for free.

We don’t show ads and we don’t collect logs or user data. AmneziaVPN app is open source and available for audit.

How to connect to Amnezia Free?​

Download the app from the official page (mirror).

Method 1:

  1. Open AmneziaVPN → Let’s get started → VPN by Amnezia → Amnezia Free → Connect.

Method 2 (if you’re in Russia):

  1. Get a vpn:// connection key from the Telegram bot.
  2. Open AmneziaVPN → Let’s get started → Insert → Continue → Connect.

Which protocol does Amnezia Free use?​

In the latest AmneziaVPN app, Amnezia Free uses AmneziaWG 1.5.

Note: The XRay VLESS protocol is available only in Amnezia Premium (mirror).

Can I get a new connection key?​

No. The bot issues one key per Telegram user.

In rare cases, keys may change (last update: August 15, 2025). If you got your key after that date, you can’t get a new (second) key.

Can I choose a location?​

No. Location selection is a Premium feature.

Which websites are accessible?​

We do not publish a full list, but you can see examples on the official website (mirror).

If a blocked site doesn’t open through Amnezia Free, you can suggest it via Telegram chat or email [email protected]. Note that we don’t add resources with harmful, unsafe, or unacceptable content.

What if I want VPN for all websites?​

Use Amnezia Premium, which routes all traffic and works for any sites and apps.

Alternatively, you can host your own VPN using the AmneziaVPN app and a VPS.

Can I install Amnezia Free on a router?​

No.

To set up VPN on a router, use Amnezia Premium (mirror).

Why doesn't YouTube work?​

Amnezia Free doesn’t provide access to YouTube in Russia. For YouTube and other blocked sites, we recommend Amnezia Premium.

Why can't I connect?​

Most common reasons:

  • you’re using an outdated AmneziaVPN version or any version of the AmneziaWG app
  • you’re using mobile internet that works only via “whitelists”
  • your ISP has blocked the VPN server IP address
  • you have a DPI-bypass app installed (for example, Zapret or ByeDPI)

If your connection key stops working, it’s not because it “expired” or needs replacing. The most likely causes are listed above.

Why do IP checkers show my real IP?​

Because that IP-check website doesn’t open through Amnezia Free.

With Amnezia Free, only some blocked sites open through VPN. Everything else opens from your real IP address.

Why doesn't Gemini work?​

Google identifies Amnezia Free server IPs as Russian, and Google AI services aren’t available from Russia.

Unfortunately, we can’t control how websites and services determine IP geolocation (including Google), but we’re already working on a solution.

Why does my internet stop working on my PC/laptop after I connect?​

This can happen if your connection is unstable and KillSwitch turns on. You can disable it in AmneziaVPN settings under Connection.

Why is Amnezia Free slow?​

Blocked sites available through Amnezia Free are limited to 8 Mbps — this is a specific restriction of the free tier. It doesn’t affect unblocked sites and services.

There’s no such speed limit in Amnezia Premium (mirror).

Why does Amnezia Free disconnect on my smartphone from time to time?​

Android often limits background activity by default, so even an active VPN connection in AmneziaVPN may stop after a while.

Disable battery optimization (activity control) for the AmneziaVPN app.

Another possible cause is temporary mobile-internet restrictions based on “whitelists.”

What VPS specifications do I need?​

How do I set up VPN on my server?​

Follow the guide: Installing VPN on your server.

Which VPN protocol should I choose?​

If your region has heavy censorship and VPNs often don’t work, use AmneziaWG or XRay and enable split tunneling for some sites, so part of your traffic goes through your real IP address.

If VPN isn’t blocked in your region, you can use any protocol (OpenVPN, WireGuard, etc.).

What should I do if I get errors 300–305 during the initial VPN setup?​

  1. Check that the server IP address, username (root), and password are entered correctly, with no extra spaces or characters.
  2. Make sure your internet connection is working properly. For example, you can test speed to foreign servers on https://nperf.com.
  3. Check whether you can connect to the server over SSH.

What should I do if the VPN connection stops working?​

  1. Make sure your VPS shows as active in your hosting provider’s control panel.
  2. Make sure the server is paid for — you may have missed the latest invoice.
  3. Make sure your internet connection is working properly. For example, you can test speed to foreign servers on https://nperf.com.

What if my internet access is restricted to a whitelist?​

If your internet access is fully or partially restricted to a whitelist, you will not be able to connect to the VPN or to the server over SSH.

In this case, the only option is to switch to a different internet connection — for example, a different mobile operator or ISP.

How can I tell whether my internet access is restricted to a whitelist?​

This usually means one of the following:

  • the VPN does not connect at all;
  • the VPN connects, but there is no traffic;
  • foreign websites that your provider does not normally block do not open;
  • the speed test to foreign servers on https://nperf.com fails, or the site itself does not open.

Can whitelist-only internet restrictions be bypassed?​

Yes, but in practice this is difficult, and we do not provide a guide or a supported workaround for bypassing these restrictions.

What if my internet is working properly, but the VPN still does not work?​

Try connecting to the VPN using the AmneziaWG 2.0 protocol: Using the AmneziaWG 2.0 Protocol on Self-Hosted Servers.

Why is my VPN speed below 100 Mbps?​

The most common reasons are:

  • another user of your VPN is using part of the available bandwidth;
  • your internet speed without VPN to foreign servers is below 100 Mbps;
  • traffic routing between the server and your device;
  • the VPN protocol you use — encryption reduces speed;
  • your internet access is restricted to a whitelist.

How do I measure internet speed correctly on the server?​

To check the server speed correctly:

  1. Install the Speedtest utility on the server:

  1. Run the speed test with this command:

Should I use UDP or TCP?​

For OpenVPN:

  • UDP: faster; good for streaming and gaming; may lose occasional packets
  • TCP: slower but reliable (no packet loss); good for browsing and file transfers

You can change this in the protocol settings.

How do I use VPN only for specific sites?​

Set up split tunneling: Split tunneling.

Can I use key-based authentication?​

Yes. AmneziaVPN supports both password and key-based authentication.

Supported OpenSSH key types: RSA (2048, 3072, 4096) and ECDSA (nistp256).

Why should I change my DNS?​

Traffic-analysis systems can infer your country not only from your external IP, but also from your DNS resolver. Changing DNS improves privacy.

The simplest option is AmneziaDNS.

How do I reinstall the app without losing settings?​

Simply reinstalling the app preserves your added servers.

If you’re reinstalling your OS, create a backup first and store it externally.

How do I share VPN with other people or my devices?​

You can share full access (server management) or connection-only access (guest).

We recommend sharing guest access — even with your own devices.

  1. Tap Share (bottom panel).
  2. Enter a user name, select a server and protocol (and a connection format, if needed), then tap Share.
  3. Share access via QR code, the vpn:// key, or a file.

Each guest key works with only one selected protocol. Generate a separate key for each protocol.

How do I change the protocol port?​

Go to Settings → Servers → select a server → select a protocol → Change port.

How do I find the app version?​

Tap the gear icon (Settings) → About AmneziaVPN.

Where are the logs located?​

  • Windows:
    • App: C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\AmneziaVPN.ORG\AmneziaVPN\log\AmneziaVPN.log
    • Service: C:\ProgramData\AmneziaVPN\log\AmneziaVPN-service.log
  • macOS: /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/AmneziaVPN.ORG/AmneziaVPN/log
  • Linux: /home/USERNAME/.local/share/AmneziaVPN

You can also open these folders via: Settings → Application → Logging → Open logs folder.
